TRUST EARNED, PROMISES DELIVERED
When previously elected your President, my goal was to focus more on:
Mental Health and Self-Well-Being
Promise: Let’s focus on the “Why” work morale is down, and clerks are not coming to work. Discipline according to Article 16 of the contract, should be corrective in nature instead of punitive.
Promise Delivered: I have had Mr John Gaal, Mental Health Specialist, speak at a union meeting about mental health and I have canvassed the station and Branches, associate offices and downtown constantly check on the mental well being of the employees. I have made phone calls and texts to members to ask them individually if they are doing well mentally. Mental health has always meant everything to me.
Management/Employee Relationships
Promise: I will definitely eliminate the hostile work environment. Management needs to be convinced that a happy employee is a productive one!
Promise Delivered: I have insisted on changes in upper management and it has happened. There's a new MDO, new maintenance manager and new In-Plant Support manager.
I started 20 Things All Members Should Know publication to keep members in the loop. I also volunteered to assist all members in EEO meetings which is unprecedented for a President to do.
Accountability
Promise:Management will be held accountable for their actions if they are not respecting the union and our contract. My stewards will be held accountable as well. They will be vocal in all PDI’s, visible on the workroom floor, stations, branches, docks, and offices.
Promise Delivered: Under my leadership, I have listened to the members and have added over 20 new stewards to help fight for your rights. Close to half of stewards are running for position in office this year.
Reinstating Union Membership Meetings
Promise: We will begin union and general membership meetings again. They have both become extinct. Members voices must be heard.
Promise Delivered: I have reinstated the union's general membership meetings. We have had a meetings by meeting our needed quorum each month under my three years 95% of the time. Employees who have never attended an union meeting before my leadership has come and learned, listened and participated.
Trust Earned, Promises Delivered.
